Results of our Thermos Challenge!

SCIENCE: THERMOS CHALLENGE!

First, we worked in groups of 4 to cooperatively design a thermos. We had to draw into our knowledge of thermal materials, how effective different type of insulation are, creative design and hot and cold temperatures. We drew our ideas on poster paper:

Then, we designed our own thermos and had to draw a scientific diagram and list the materials we would need!

We had to use our knowledge of hot and cold temperatures to predict and make a hypothesis about how effective our design would be. What would be the initial temperature of the ice cube in water inside of our thermos? what about after 15 minutes? after 2 hours?

Here are some of our finished Thermoses! Notice the number of layers that represent the vacuums between containers, and the different types of materials used!
