HOUSEKEEPING:

Conferences!
Ms McDonald's class conferences are near complete. It has been a pleasure meeting all of my student's wonderful families :) I look forward to a few remaining meetings next week.

SLA's: Students begin with their digital Literacy SLA Assessment next Tuesday and Wednesday. Please send a large, healthy snack :))

Safety Week: A resounding success! We practised a fire drill, lockdown and an evacuation to Pratt.

Terry Fox: Congratulations to Royal Oak students on a successful Terry Fox Run! As a school, we raised $729 and ran 1029 kms!!! We would also like to send out a MASSIVE THANK YOU to Royal Oak Sobeys for their generous donation of bananas. Our students were able to enjoy a healthy snack after their run. You can also add a link to my PE blog if you would like. There are a few pictures of the run. Thanks!

CLASSROOM LEARNING

LITERATURE CIRCLES
The students have been assigned to literature circles with whom they read with every morning. Students cooperatively read the same book within a group of 3-4 peers. They have the opportunity to explore new types of genres, words & very importantly, comprehension strategies. As we progress, we will experiment with different roles within our groups.

STRATEGY 1: 'Summarize' using increasingly specific criteria for grade 3. "Someone, Wanted, But, So, Then" Please also note the purple Summarizing strategies.

SEPTEMBER WRITING ASSESSMENT

We continue with our September assessments to help us identify our student's strengths and next steps to inform our teaching.

Students were given the following 4 picture prompts to write a story:
