Week in Review Sept 10-14

The Terry Fox Run

Students forged ahead through the cold weather and snow today and ran a very successful Terry Fox Run! Thank you for all the #TooniesForTerry donations. Ask your child how many laps they completed :)

Math

As we continued to collect and present data through polls and bar graphs, students gathered ideas towards a rubric for a properly completed bar graph. Here are some examples of our work!

 Geology: Rocks and Minerals
Students brought in their own rocks this week in our introduction to this Science unit. Students were challenged to do an I See, I Think, I Wonder about their rocks in their visual journals. They then engaged in a sorting activity where they categorized groups of rocks by coming up with their own criteria. Some ideas were weight, smell, colour, size and shape.

SLA Practice
Ask me about the SLA practice I did this week for ELA and Math! Please see the letter that came home today in your child's Home Folder regarding assessment dates and information.

Tech Friday: Scratch Jr. Coding
Students got their first taste of coding in Grade 3 with Scratch Jr. This is a program that builds students problem-solving skills, as well as various literacy and math skills. This app can be found at the App store.

We are a  Calgary Reads School and we are looking for VOLUNTEERS!
Calgary Reads offers several school-based reading and tutoring programs for young children. And we need your help. Each program relies on volunteers to make them successful. Visit www.CalgaryReads.com for more information about how to get involved.

Volunteers must have a valid police check completed with the school’s office and need to attend training provided by Calgary Reads. You also must have experience with Wee Reads prior to taking Read-Up training.
* If we have enough parents interest we can run a Wee Reads training session right at the school! *

If you’re interested in volunteering please reach out to our Resource Teacher, Heather Mitschke at hmmitschke@cbe.ab.ca
