No Excuse Words Oct 15-19, Inquiry and Math

October 15-19 'no excuse' words:
Every Tuesday, students are given 5 new words that come from and are related to our curricular studies. The expectation is that students will 'say, spell and use' these words in reading, speaking and writing.

Please review these words with your child, discuss their meaning, spelling and use. Students will have access to these words around the classroom and on their desks.

Sedimentary

Strata

Weathering

Transportation

Deposition

Lithification

Literacy
In literacy we have been reading geology articles and annotating important ideas with posted notes called think notes.

Inquiry
We have begun writing Geological field reports on the Frank slide. Students will create a field guide that explains all of the factors leading up to the Frank Slide in 1903, as well as the implications and different perspectives on the Rock Slide itself.

This week we started looking into Sedimentary Rocks and their place in the rock cycle.

Math
Building on our work with number lines, this week we started looking at number families and building equations.
