Week in Review 1-5, no excuse words, Parent Night, scratch,

Creating rock slides using Scratch Coding!
(please see your child's IRIS to view their creation)

In order to expand on our understanding of Rocks and Minerals, while building our literacy skills, today we used Scratch coding to create rockslide narratives.

Inquiry

In inquiry we continued with our rock testing.

Literacy

In literacy, we have been working on 'Summarizing' non-fiction texts using the following format, while reading geology articles about the Frank Slide.

Math

This week we have been focusing on building equations and solving equations using number lines.

Using the Scientific Method:

Testing for hardness

Testing for lustre
Lustre is the way light interacts with the surface of a crystal, rock, or mineral. The word traces its origins back to the Latin lux, meaning "light", and generally implies radiance, gloss, or brilliance. A range of terms are used to describe lustre, such as earthy, metallic, greasy, and silky.

Testing for colour

A Rock Color Chart provides a durable, accurate method for classifying and judging rock. Evaluate rock colours of all types where you need it most… in the field. Evaluate rock colour for wet or dry; medium, fine or coarse-grained rocks too.
