April 8 -What have we been up to?!

Science

Animal Classification
We have begun to sort and classify animals based on their physical characteristics. Students are also learning about how scientists and ecologists group and classify different living things. Ask me about the unique characteristics of vertebrates and invertebrates! Ask me about mammals, insects, reptiles, birds, fish, and amphibians! We had to sort over 100 animals into those 6 categories!

We are also comparing invertebrates and vertebrates, as well as looking into the main vertebrate classes.

The Six Kingdoms

Social Studies: PERU
Geography & Climate

Students have been using resources like Google Earth to investigate and explore Peru and it's various landscapes, regions and landmarks.

"Secret of the Andes" Class read-aloud book!
We are also studying Peru through a novel study of the book Secret of the Andes. About a modern Inca boy who leaves his home in the high Andes.

Literacy
Students are working on their ability to read an article, pull out relevant information and then use that information to write paragraphs. We have been reading comparative animal articles to further support our inquiry into Ecology.
