Please check in your child's home folder for choir forms that were sent home today. If a student expressed that they were not interested in joining, they did not take a form. Here is the invitation from Mrs. Mann our Music Specialist!

School Conferences (Thursday, November 21, 4:30-8pm and Friday, November 22 from 8-12):
The school conference system opens this Thursday, November 14 at 5:00 p.m. and the system will close at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, November 19.

Remembrance Day Assembly last Thursday at 11:00am

Students in Mrs. McDonald's grade 3 class created a wreath made of origami doves. Students wrote messages of peace and hope inside of each dove. Our class also created beautiful pieces of art posted around the gym with our ideas around what peace might smell, sound, look, taste and feel like.

MATH:

Students independently created a poll with four choices and polled all of their classmates! They then organized this information into a chart and graphed it using their knowledge of bar graphs.

Mrs. McDonald's STEM challenges!
(I love to do these type of challenges at least once a week!)

Students were also challenged to create and build bar graphs in a three-dimensional space using Lego and base plates. Lego can be categorized by colour, each brick has a defined number of studs, and they can be stacked. Here are some examples of our creative ideas!

SCIENCE:
  • We explored hands-on "earthquake" stations that had us think deeply around concepts such as:
  • What is the epicentre of the earthquake?
  • What is the Richter Scale?
  • What are Seismic maps?
  • How can we identify areas around the world that are most affected by earthquakes?
  • How can we build strong structures on the shake table to resist earthquakes?
  • what is a seismometer and how can it help us to understand and predict earthquakes?
Slow-motion video of our shake table!

LITERACY:

We continue to write about our Scientific Conclusions for our rock tests.

We are now in flex groupings according to student need for our literacy block in the morning. Students go to a specified grade 3 teacher to learn reading strategies from 9:20 to 10:00 Monday to Thursday. Ask your child about their reading group and teacher!

SOCIAL STUDIES:

We continue to examine the Rights of a Child, as well as Canada's role around the world. We are asking the question: should we help? how can we help?
